According to NACOMYO, the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations, Muslims should be very careful not to commit acts of terrorism, kidnapping, murder, or intimidation against innocent people.
The Nigerian government has long-established legal procedures that impose harsh punishments for serious crimes, such as terrorism, kidnapping, and murder, as pointed out by the council.
In response to what appear to be terrorist demands that Oyo State’s kidnapped children and teachers be released in exchange for the adoption of Shariah law, NACOMYO issued the warning in a statement.
This past month, in several areas within the Oriire local government area, 39 pupils and 7 instructors were abducted, according to the DAILY POST.
Nevertheless, there has been talk that the kidnappers wanted Shariah rule to be enforced before they would free the kidnapped teachers and kids.
In response, however, Dawood Afolabi, the NACOMYO coordinator in Oyo State, characterised the kidnappers’ purported demand as dishonest, illegal, and a severe distortion of Islam and Shariah.
Perpetrators of these horrific atrocities do not have the moral, theological, or legal standing to represent Islam or Muslims in Nigeria, according to Afolabi’s statement that was made public to Teamboma on Saturday.
According to him, the goals and principles of Shariah law are in stark contrast to acts of terrorism, abduction, murder, and the coercion of defenceless individuals.
Moreover, he emphasised the need for enhanced security measures surrounding educational institutions and for more robust intelligence gathering by all levels of government.
He advocated for the swift and decisive arrest and prosecution of evildoers and those who aid them by urging security services to do just that.
Afolabi urged religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, and the media to maintain their advocacy for interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence in the face of criminals’ efforts to use religion for evil.
Oyo State Chapter of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has denounced the alleged demand of terrorists for the release of kidnapped teachers and pupils in exchange for the application of Shariah Law, he stated.
The criminals responsible for these horrific murders do not have the moral, religious, or legal standing to represent Islam or Muslims in Nigeria. The council emphasised that the goals and principles of Shariah Law are in stark contrast to acts of terrorism, abduction, murder, and the intimidation of innocent people, all of which are considered grave faults in Islam.
In the name of Shariah, those who kidnap innocent children and educators and try to bargain with human lives are actually working against the law they profess to support. Islam condemns transgression and tyranny without reservation. Killing an innocent person without due cause is the same as killing all of humanity, according to the Holy Qur’an. On the other hand, saving a life is the same as saving all of humanity.
Public safety and social order are undermined by crimes like armed robbery, terrorism, kidnapping, and instilling fear and insecurity among the populous, according to Islamic jurisprudence. In accordance with long-standing legal procedures designed to safeguard society, discourage criminal behaviour, and guarantee victim justice, such actions elicit harsh penalties.
