Olivier Giroud, a former striker for Arsenal and Chelsea, has named the African squad that will surprise everyone at the current World Cup event while ignoring countries like Morocco and South Africa.
Mexico defeated South Africa 2-0 in the opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday.
Ten African nations are participating in the World Cup, which is being held in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia are among them.
Giroud, meanwhile, thinks Ghana, Senegal, or the Ivory Coast will be the unexpected World Cup team.
Giroud stated, as reported by BBC Sport, “One of the African teams can be the surprise team.”
“On their day, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Ghana could all be dangerous teams.”
