The MOBO Organisation released a lengthy statement expressing their “immeasurable sorrow” over the loss of its “Founder and CEO, Kanya King CBE” on June 3, 2026, following a valiant fight with colon cancer.
According to Teamboma, Kanya King started the annual British music awards show Music of Black Origin (MOBO) in 1996.
Kanya was born on February 12, 1969, in Kilburn, north London, to parents of Ghanaian and Irish descent.
