Fame on social media cannot supplant genuine skill – Nkem Owoh

The present habit of certain producers casting actors based on social media fame rather than talent has prompted veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh, better known as Osuofia, to respond.

The actress stated on a recent Selah Meditate podcast that the practice poses no danger to exceptionally gifted actors.

Fame on social media, he said, can never trump genuine skill.

True talent is still more important than social media celebrity, in my opinion. Because it simply cannot. “Real talent can never be replaced by social media fame,” he declared.

In separate interviews, a diverse group of Nigerian actors—including Bolaji Ogunmola, Osereme Inegbenebor, and Shine Rosman—accused Nollywood filmmakers of prioritising physical attractiveness, social media fame, and complexion over genuine skill, according to Teamboma.

Nollywood filmmakers have remained silent despite the numerous accusations.
