In the mountains around the villages of Dangulbi and Kurawa in Sokoto State’s Tureta Local Government Area, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have eliminated multiple bandits and demolished their hideouts. The area borders Zamfara State.
This information was leaked on Saturday in Sokoto by a security source, who also mentioned that the operation had a very successful coordinated offensive on June 4 with the help of other security agencies and local vigilantes.
According to the source, the soldiers and the bandits got into a heavy gunfight, with the former killing multiple bandits (including suspected kingpins) and the latter fleeing into the adjacent woods with bullet wounds.
The raid allegedly also resulted in the recovery of firearms and motorbikes.
According to the source, the ability of our military troops to respond quickly, demonstrate professionalism, and show courage prevented a potentially disastrous occurrence. The operation was carried out by members of the 8 Division as part of Operation Fansan Yamma.
Despite the lack of formal confirmation from military authorities, the source said that the operation successfully demolished and disrupted important bandit enclaves in the area.
Retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, who is Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, and other inhabitants of the state have praised the Nigerian Army for its persistent efforts and operational victories in the fight against banditry.
According to security sources, the pace of operations will be kept up so that criminal elements in the region can continue to be pressured.
