Sale of $2 billion worth of anti-drone weaponry to Kuwait greenlit by US

On Friday, the US government confirmed that it had authorised a $1.98 billion arms transfer to Kuwait, a Gulf state that has been targeted by Iranian missiles in the ongoing Middle East conflict.

A Trump supporter and defence contractor Anduril has announced in a statement that the United States Department of State would authorise the purchase of counter-drone equipment from the company.

The statement stated that the planned sale will help achieve U.S. foreign policy and national security goals by strengthening the defences of a key non-NATO ally that has played a significant role in bringing about political and economic stability in the Middle East.

This week, 63 people were injured and one person was murdered in a drone strike on Kuwait’s international airport; officials there “condemned Iranian aggression” immediately.

Attacks continued after a ceasefire that had been in place since the bombing of Iran on February 28 by the United States and Israel had halted hostilities, which had been broken on April 8.
