Oyo State civil personnel have been advised to acquire expertise beyond their present human capacity training in order to remain relevant in office.
The state Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Abdulwaheed Adelabu, issued the charge on Friday while answering questions from newsmen shortly after declaring open a one-day training workshop for 85 personnel on a series of capacity-building sessions.
It was a training conducted by the state government and held in the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre, Secretariat, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“There is need for civil servants to receive more training and acquire additional skills which will enhance their efficiencies and responsibilities at the state levels,” the commissioner added.

“The government is not relenting in ensuring that all cadres in the service are trained through the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre, both the academic and non-academic staff are working to sustain the legacy of Simeon Adebo,” he said.
Speaking on the economic scenario in the country, Adelabu assured all that the welfare of workers remained a priority for the state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde.

He said the economic hardship was not specific to Oyo State alone and added that the government had been trying its utmost to soften the consequences.
“About two years ago, we had only an initiative called Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) in Oyo State. They also get a N10,000 fuel subsidy allocation for each worker to relieve transportation hardship, and buses to transfer them to and from different locations’, Adelabu added.
“In terms of workers welfare, Oyo State is one of the three best states in Nigeria on the economic indices,” he said.
The event had 4 groups of participants: auditors, account officers, secretaries and train-the-trainers from 25 ministries, departments and agencies.
Adelabu appealed to the participants to “learn to earn” to boost their sources of income.
