On Wednesday, during a political event planned in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke, a stage hosting the governor and other dignitaries collapsed in Ijebu-Jesa, Oriade Local Government Area, Osun State, causing panic among the crowd.
The incident took place as Pelumi Olajengbesi, an Accord candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, was launching the Imole Canvassers project.
Just as Governor Adeleke stood to address the crowd of supporters, according to eyewitnesses, the stage collapsed.
A video captured the exact moment the building gave way, causing a temporary uproar among the audience as it went viral on social media.
Image captured on the screenInauguration of the approximately 10,000 Imole Canvassers, who will promote government programs and policies in the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency and the broader Osun East Senatorial District, was the purpose of the occasion.
There were no reports of injuries to the governor or any other notable political figures despite the occurrence.
After the building collapsed, high-ranking government authorities verified that Governor Adeleke and all other event attendees were unharmed.
According to the reports, the security team and event planners wasted no time in responding to the issue and bringing peace back to the site.
After the event, Hon. Bamidele Salam, who represents the Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, also confirmed that the governor was safe.
Salam published a photo of Governor Adeleke with Prince Kola Adewusi, Olawale Rasheed, Pastor Victor Akande, Prince Adeleke’s spokesperson, and other party officials on his Facebook page. The shot also included the Osun Accord Chairman.
“Together with His Excellency Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, following a highly effective rally in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, where Pelumi Olajengbesi initiated a substantial campaign in the governor’s favour,” Salam wrote.
Following the governor’s and dignitaries’ assurances that they were unharmed, the rally resumed, and the crowd calmly dispersed after the stage collapsed.
